The York and Lancaster towers at Windsor Castle, Berkshire, 1860. Artist: Anon
The York and Lancaster towers at Windsor Castle, Berkshire, 1860. Originally built by William the Conqueror, Windsor Castle has been modified and extended by successive monarchs. Its greatest transformation, which produced the castle we see today, was undertaken by Jeffry Wyatville starting in the 1824 during the reign of George IV and completed during the 1830s. The York and Lancaster Towers date from this time. © The London Archives (City of London)/Heritage Images © The London Archives (City of London)/Heritage Images
