Westland Whirlwind, 1941.
Westland Whirlwind, 1941. The twin-engined Whirlwind was one of the fastest and most heavily armed fighters when it first flew in 1938. Problems with the development of the aircraft's Rolls-Royce Peregrine engines delayed the construction and deployment of the Whirlwind, and only 116 were built, between 1940 and 1942. A print from British Fighters, by Lawrence Fairhall, London Robert Ross & Co Ltd, 1941.
