Propeller workshop, Hampton's Munitions Works, Lambeth, London, 1914-1918. Artist: Bedford Lemere and Company
Propeller workshop, Hampton's Munitions Works, Lambeth, London, 1914-1918. With a little encouragement and ingenuity this factory was able to retrain their staff during World War I to make propellers rather than furniture. Although many women worked in factories during the war it was still unusual to find them being used as skilled labour for jobs such as carpentry.
