Biscott Windmill, Luton, Bedfordshire, 1934. Artist: HES Simmons
Biscott Windmill, Luton, Bedfordshire, 1934. This smock mill was used for grinding corn and was built 1844 to replace an earlier mill which burned down in 1841. It is common for mills to occupy the same site for generations; a map of 1711 shows that a mill was on the site by that date. The site is now built over.
