Quality checking cookers at the GEC plant, Swinton, South Yorkshire, 1960. Artist: Michael Walters
Quality checking cookers at the GEC plant, Swinton, South Yorkshire, 1960. An overview of the final stages of cooker assembly at the GEC plant in Swinton, near Rotherham. The cookers were built using the same 'conveyor' method by which cars are assembled, gradually progressing until they came to this area where they were quality checked. Demand was high for thes appliances which meant that a Christmas shutdown was impossible. This photograph was taken on the 19th December 1960.
