Molten steel, Park Gate Iron & Steel Co, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, April 1955. Artist: Michael Walters
Molten steel, Park Gate Iron & Steel Co, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, April 1955. Molten steel runs into a vessel prior to being teemed into ingots. As with most UK steel producers, the company was nationalised in 1948. The company had been involved in the production of steel for a wide variety of uses, including the mining industry and armour plate for the shipping industry. The company also produced the steel for Brunel's ship, the 'Great Eastern'. The picture was taken prior to the company being bought by the Tube investments Co in 1956.
