Silverwood Colliery modernisation, South Yorkshire, 1955. Modernisation work to Silverwood Colliery took place during 1955 to cater for the increasing demand for coal. Norwest Construction were contracted to do the work and in this picture, the large chimney base of the steam winding mechanism can be clearly seen. Silverwood eventually closed in 1994.
