A British Reema ball mill prior to installation, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, 1963. Artist: Michael Walters
A British Reema ball mill prior to installation, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, 1963. At the Edgar Allen Steel Company in Sheffield. Ball Mills are used to grind or mix materials like ores, chemicals, ceramic raw materials and paints. They rotate around a horizontal axis, partially filled with the material to be ground plus the material that does the grinding. This can be ceramic or stainless steel balls, flint pebbles or similar materials. The cascading effect reduces the material to a powder.
