Montague Buildings, Mexborough, South Yorkshire, 1963. Artist: Michael Walters
Montague Buildings, Mexborough, South Yorkshire, 1963. The Montague Buildings in were constructed around 1900 on the site of a former quarry and have been home to many retailers over the years. Clays, whose shop can be seen in this 1963 photograph sold a variety of household items, some of which, such as prams, white goods and children's bicycles, can be seen in the window displays. The site was most lately occupied by one of Mexborough's oldest shops, Madam Florence, which closed during the recession of 2009.
