Steel bars being loaded onto the 'Manchester Renown', Manchester, 1964. Artist: Michael Walters
Steel bars being loaded onto the 'Manchester Renown', Manchester, 1964. British steel products were in demand worldwide during the 1960s due to their high quality. The 'Renown' was part of the Manchester Liners fleet, which were loaded on the Manchester Ship Canal and carried Britain's products worldwide. The 'Renown' was newly built when the photograph was taken in 1964 and was in service with the Manchester fleet until 1971 when it was sold to South Korea and renamed the 'Korean Challenger'.
