Christ Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, 1955.
Christ Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, 1955. Vintage postcard showing a bird's eye view of the exterior of the church. A park is visible next to the building and rooftops can be seen in the distance. Cars are parked in front of the church. Christ Church was originally founded by Anglicans in 1695. The Georgian church that exists today was built between 1727 and 1744, with the steeple added in 1754. At the time of the steeple's completion it was the tallest building in North America. Christ Church was the site of the baptism of William Penn and members of its congregation included George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. In 1785 the church was the birthplace of the American Episcopal Church.
