Kite-powered water transport, c1890. Powered by a kite held aloft by balloons, this vehicle incorporated a raft with a passenger basket on the wires halfway between the kite and the raft. It was invented in 1890 by David Thayer, who also proposed a land version which he called an 'aerial railway'.
