Town Hall in Amsterdam, Netherlands, c1870. Artist: W Steelink
Town Hall in Amsterdam, Netherlands, c1870. Amsterdam's town hall was built between 1648 and 1655. The building became a royal palace when Louis Napoleon was installed as King Louis I of the Netherlands in 1806, a change which became permanent after the House of Orange was restored in 1813 and William VI, Prince of Orange, became King William I. A print from Nederlands Geschiedenis en Volksleven in Schetsen, by J Van Lenner and J Ter Gouw. (Leiden, AW Sijthoff, c1870).
