Lindisfarne Priory, Northumberland, 2000. Artist: JO Davies
Lindisfarne Priory, Northumberland, 2000. The ruins of the priory church, including the diagonal rib in the central crossing, date from 1093-1140. The other ruins date largely from the 13th and 14th centuries. A monastery was founded on Lindisfarne by St Aidan in 634 AD. Nothing of that remained when a Benedictine Priory was founded there from Durham Cathedral.
