Deal Castle, Kent, 1997. Artist: J Bailey
Deal Castle, Kent, 1997. The two holes above the main entrance, seen here, may have been part of the drawbridge mechanism. Between them are the illegible remains of a plaque. Deal Castle was completed in 1540 as part of Henry VIII's scheme to defend the South Coast against invasion.
