Entrance to Deal Castle, Kent, 1997. Artist: J Bailey
Entrance to Deal Castle, Kent, 1997. The entrance to the Castle is down a short passageway with murder holes in the ceiling above. The iron-studded oak door is original and is a fine example of its kind. Deal Castle was built in 1540 as part of Henry VIII's scheme to defend the South Coast against invasion.
