Granary at Birdoswald Fort, Cumbria, 1994. Artist: Paul Highnam
Granary at Birdoswald Fort, Cumbria, 1994. Sheep ignore the excavated remains of a Roman granary at Birdoswald Fort (Camboglanna). An inscription suggests the granary was built in 205-8 AD. Modern logs mark the position of upright beams which were inserted when the granary was converted into a hall in the 4th century.
