Arundel Castle, Arundel, West Sussex, 1998. Artist: EH/RCHME staff photographer
Arundel Castle, Arundel, West Sussex, 1998. Arundel Castle is home to the Dukes of Norfolk. At its centre is a Norman earthen motte. The shell keep and two large baileys, the upper and lower wards, were improvements of the 12th century. It continued to be occupied, and the grand house which was created around the lower ward between 1890 and 1903 by the 15th Duke was the latest in a series of alterations.
