The little Caesarevitch with his sailor friend, 1908. The Tsarevich Alexei Romanov (1904-1918) was the only son of Nicholas II. He suffered from haemophilia and so needed to be under constant supervision as the slightest bruise or wound could have been dangerous. From Queen Alexandra's Christmas Gift Book, Photographs from My Camera, by Queen Alexandra, published by The Daily Telegraph (London, 1908).
