Shrewsbury railway station and castle, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, 2001. Artist: EH/RCHME staff photographer
Shrewsbury railway station and castle, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, 2001. The town of Shrewsbury sits defensively in a loop of the River Severn. A castle was first built here soon after the Norman conquest, and later renewed in stone. The surviving remains date from the mid 12th and 13th centuries. It now overlooks the railway station.
