The remains of Weoley Castle, West Midlands, 2000. Artist: EH/RCHME staff photographer
The remains of Weoley Castle, West Midlands, 2000. The remains lie in a suburb of Birmingham. A licence to crenellate was granted to Roger de Somery in 1264, and a roughly rectangular moated site was built. Excavation has revealed that domestic buildings stood against the curtain wall, and the platforms left by others can be seen within the courtyard.
