Walmer Castle and gardens, Deal, Kent, 1998. Here the castle and gardens, including a sundial and summerhouse, are seen from the Wilderness Garden. Gardens have been planted around the castle since the 19th century. Walmer Castle was built in 1539 as part of a chain of artillery forts to guard the south coast. It is now the residence of the Warden of the Cinque Ports, currently the Queen Mother.
