Detail of Stokesay Castle, Shropshire, 1997. Artist: N Corrie
Detail of Stokesay Castle, Shropshire, 1997. Here is a detail of the half-timbered cap of the north tower, viewed from the neighbouring churchyard. Stokesay Castle is the finest and best-preserved 13th century fortified manor house in England. It was fortified by Lawrence de Ludlow, a wool merchant, who died in 1294.
