The Tower of London, viewed here through the cable supports of Tower Bridge, c1945-c1965. Artist: SW Rawlings
The Tower of London, viewed here through the cable supports of Tower Bridge, c1945-c1965. It was built in the reign of William the Conqueror in 1077 and it was later improved defensively by Henry III and Edward I in the 13th and 14th centuries. It has served as a fortress, royal palace, arsenal and prison. The Port of London Authority building can be seen to the left.
