Edmond Rostand, French poet and dramatist, 1908. Associated with the neo-Romantic movement, Rostand (1868-1918) is best known for his play Cyrano de Bergerac, first performed in 1897, that was a huge popular success. In 1901 he became the youngest writer to be elected to the Academie Francaise.
