Albert Leo Schlageter, German soldier and member of the Freikorps, c1914-c1923. A member of the Freikorps, a paramilitary organisation founded by German ex-soldiers after World War I, Schlageter (1894-1923) was regarded as a martyr by the Nazis. He was executed by the French after waging a campaign of sabotage during their occupation of the Ruhr in 1923.
