Paul Doumer, French statesman, 1908. Doumer (right) with his five sons, four of whom were killed in the First World War. He served as Governor-General of French Indochina from 1897-1902. On his return to France Doumer was President of the Chamber of Deputies from 1902-1905. He was elected President of France in 1931 but was assassinated the following year.
