Anton (Tony) Joseph Cermak, Mayor of Chicago, Illinois, USA, c1931-c1933(?). Cermak (1873-1933) was Mayor of Chicago from 1931 until his assassination by Giuseppe Zangara in Miami, Florida, in 1933. It is uncertain whether Cermak, who was engaged in a crackdown on organised crime in Chicago, was the intended target of the assassin, or whether it was President Franklin D Roosevelt, who he was shaking hands with at the time.
