'The Battle of Culloden, 1746', (c1850s).
'The Battle of Culloden, 1746', (c1850s). The last military clash ever to be fought on mainland Britain, between the English under the Duke of Cumberland and the Jacobite rebels commanded by Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie). The outcome was a decisive defeat for the Scots, effectively ending the Young Pretender's claim to the throne. Colour plate taken from the book Pictures of English History, George Routledge And Sons, (London, New York, c1850).
