'The Siege of Sebastopol', 1854-1855 (c1850s). During the Crimean War (Russo-Turkish War) 1853-1856, Russian troops were besieged by the British and French at Sevastopol (Sebastopol) from 17 October 1854 to 8-9 September 1855. The city finally fell and the Russians blew up the forts and magazines before they marched out on 11 September. Colour plate taken from the book Pictures of English History, George Routledge And Sons, (London, New York, c1850).
