Thomas Dalziel, Scottish general, (1870). Dalziel (1599-1685) entered the service of the tsar of Russia and fought in the wars against the Turks and Tatars. Returning to England, he was appointed commander-in-chief in Scotland by Charles II. An engraving from Robert Chamber's A Biographical Dictionary of Eminent Scotsmen, Blackie and Son, (Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London, 1870).
