Black glazed ewer with blue phosphatic suffusions, Tang dynasty, China, 8th-9th century. A stoneware huangdao type ewer with a short circular spout and double strap studded handle inspired by a leather original. The ewer is covered with a thick, black glaze with extensive pale bluish phosphatic suffusions, the lower portion and base are unglazed showing the greyish brown body and solid knife-parred foot.
