Brown Ding saucer with moulded floral decoration, Jin dynasty, China, late 12th-early 13th century.
Brown Ding saucer with moulded floral decoration, Jin dynasty, China, late 12th-early 13th century. A brown Ding saucer with moulded decoration of flowers and leaves outlined with thread-relief lines under a thin chocolate brown glaze in the centre of a multiple scalloped edged medallion. The cavetto is filled with concave radiating sections seperated by thin relief line borders. The slightly flattened rim is decorated with triple lined chevrons. The flowers are peony and (probably) hibiscus. The base is glazed and the piece has been fired on its unglazed rim.
