Celadon jade dragon tortoise, Ming dynasty, China, 1368-1644. A small even yellowish-celadon and brown carved jade dragon tortoise. Its undecorated but planed carapace is ridged down the middle of the back with concave flanges around the edge. The head is held high with one small incipient horn and streaming hair and detailed face with curled eyebrows and tweaky nose, and bulbous legs.
