Sang de boeuf Langyao vase, Qing dynasty, China, 19th century.
Sang de boeuf Langyao vase, Qing dynasty, China, 19th century. A small Langyao vase of meiping shape slightly flaring at the base and mouth, the short neck with a slight ridge under the thick glaze showing whiter at that point, the thick very deep red glaze covering the exterior down to the foot where it stops neatly to show the white porcelain body; the glazed interior reveals a plain slightly yellowish tinged crackled glaze. The langyao glaze also fades away at the slightly flared mouth to a pinkish colour.
