Kraak dish with deer and 'Y'-shaped rocks, Ming dynasty, China, c1580-1600. Foliated Kraak blue and white dish decorated in the centre with four spotted deer under a large pine tree beneath lingzhi shaped clouds. The ground has rocks with horizontal 'Y'-shaped perforation. The cavetto and rim have eight shaped radiating panels of flowers and butterflies separated by eight narrow panels of beaded pendants. The reverse has single birds on bare branches. The style is Group 5 Kraak, which group dates from c.1580-1615, however this piece can be dated within narrower limits to c1580-1600.
