Damascened bronze incense box with lion dogs, Qing dynasty, China, 18th century. A small circular damascened bronze incense box. The slightly domed cover is etched with a design of two lion dogs under flowering peony and begonias infilled in gold. The lower half has a band of gilt birds amongst fruiting and flowering trees. The interior is gilded and there are borders of hatch pattern.
