Hexagonal bronze vase, Late Jin or Yuan dynasty, China, 13th century. Vase with a long neck, bulbous body and splayed foot. The body is divided into six facets vertically and six registers horizontally. Each register is decorated with a different diaper pattern as follows from top to bottom (i) stylised cicadas, (ii) all over stars, (iii) diamond diaper, (iv) interlocking cash and swastikas (v) classic scroll and (vi) overlapping petals, the last two being very narrow bands round the foot. The two handles are in the shape of cloud scrolls.
