Tombstones in the Old Jewish Cemetery in Josefov, the Jewish Quarter of Old Town, Prague, Czechoslovakia on January 2, 1978. Because of restricted crowded space, people were buried in many layers between the fifteenth century and into the late eighteenth century. 12,000 antique grave markers and tombstones are now visible in the congestion. Most of the stones have shallow relief carving of Hebrew scripture and prayers.
