Arita/Kakiemon square dish decorated with hen and flowers and dragons, middle Edo period, Japan, c1700-1720. A shallow square dish with indented corners decorated with polychrome Kakiemon type enamels. The central medallion has a cockerel and hen. The cavetto is decorated with alternating two dragons chasing flaming pearls and two peony sprays. The reverse has underglaze blue formal scrolls. There are spur marks on the base.
