Pottery figures of a mandarin and lady, early Qing dynasty, China, 17th century.
Pottery figures of a mandarin and lady, early Qing dynasty, China, 17th century. The man has a beard and is wearing a short robe and cloth high boots. The woman is wearing long robes and holding tablet. Both figures are painted with bright fired pigments and stand on similarly painted plinths. Both wear tasseled hats and have removeable heads. The tasselled hats worn by these figures are typical of early Qing official dress and serve to date these figures to the 17th century.
