Qingbai twin drummer figures, Yuan dynasty, China, 1279-1368.
Qingbai twin drummer figures, Yuan dynasty, China, 1279-1368. Small qingbai figure group of a male and female drummer standing on a plinth. The female has a high headdress and one foot forward with drum on shoulder strap slung under her elbow. The man has a conical cap and drum held at shoulder. The heads are unglazed and the bodies have a greenish-blue yingqing glaze touching at the shoulder. The base is a reddish buff colour. Operas and dramas of all sorts became popular in the Yuan dynasty and designs taken from them served as models for decoration of ceramics at this time.
