Blue and white water jar, Vietnam, early 15th century.
Blue and white water jar, Chu Dau kiln, Vietnam, early 15th century. Globular jar of squat form. There is decoration around the shoulder of a continuous band of peony scroll (the leaves rather windswept) contained within two lined borders above and below in pale iron grey underglaze. A band of false gadroons encircles the base, which is unglazed and reveals the putty-like body. The white glaze has a greenish hue.
