White ceramic horse, Southern Song dynasty, China, c1127-1279. A small white glazed figure of a horse lying on its back with legs tucked in. Its head is small and snake-like, its forelock and mane are well modelled. The glaze is of yellowish-white tone probably of yingqing type. The piece was possibly used as brushrest or incense stick holder.
