Changsha stoneware jar, Late Tang or Five Dynasties, China, 9th-10th century.
Changsha stoneware jar, Late Tang or Five Dynasties, Hunan province, China, 9th-10th century. Globular celadon stoneware jar with two lug handles. The pale buff body is covered with a brownish-olive green glaze that reaches half way down the body. There are four large brown splashes around the shoulder that have run down the vessel. The glaze is typically crackled and red earth stained as is normal with Changsha wares.
