Boxwood ruyi sceptre, Late Ming/early Qing dynasty, China, 17th century (?).
Boxwood ruyi sceptre, Late Ming/early Qing dynasty, China, 17th century (?). Sceptre elegantly but simply carved with small ruyi heads sprouting from the main branch. There are four seal script characters carved on the reverse (probably to be translated as 'thousands of years of whatever you wish' frequently to be found on such sceptres).
