George Sand (Baroness Dudevant), 19th century French novelist and feminist, (1900). Married at 18, after nine years Sand (1804-1876) left her husband Baron Dudevant and went to Paris with their two children. A member of the Bohemian artistic circle, she took a number of lovers including Jules Sandeau, Prosper Merimee, Lamenais and Pierre Leroux. Her most famous relationship was that with Chopin which lasted 10 years. From 1848 she lived at Nohant in Berri, France, a property she inherited from her grandmother.
