Dom Pedro, Emperor of Brazil, late 19th century. Pedro II (1825-1891) was the second and last Emperor of Brazil, ruling from 1831-1889. He was overthrown in a military coup on 15th November 1889. Brazil became a republic and Pedro lived out the remainder of his life in exile in Portugal.
