Charity in the Cellar, 18th century.
Charity in the Cellar, 18th century. A group of men in a cellar getting drunk. One of the party has passed out behind them. The man in the central group pours wine from the bottle into a glass for one man and straight into the mouth of another. At the bottom lies all their empty bottles. On the right, by way of comparison lies a small statue of a woman breastfeeding two children; the poses strikingly similar. © London Museum/Heritage Images
