'Hudibras Vanquished by Trulla', 18th century. Artist: William Hogarth
'Hudibras Vanquished by Trulla', 18th century. Trulla interrupts the fight and stands over Hudibras to protect him. She holds his sword and has her hand on the man's club to prevent him for carrying on the fight. In the background two men tease Hudibras' squire Ralph, tickling him under the chin. Plate V from the story Hudibras, written by Samuel Butler. Hudibras is a colonel in the Cromwellian army. The story shows him getting involved in various misadventures, where he shows himself to be stupid, greedy and dishonest. © London Museum/Heritage Images
